It's all wrong. Sam Puckett does _not _fall for a geek. A dork. A tech-producer whose mom gave him _tick baths_. But she did, so long ago it's actually kind of pathetic. She hides it behind snark and shoves and little nit-picks at his personality. She pretends it doesn't hurt when he looks on adoringly at Carly like she's the be-all-end-all and she reminds him again and again that Carly Shay would _never _love him, even if she'd be lucky to.

So feisty and troublesome Sam smirks and snarls and plays the big, bad, tough girl, while all the while knowing… She would give up forever to touch him, to have a moment like they'd once shared on that fire escape. To kiss his lips and wrap her arms around his neck, to know that he was hers and she was his. To hold his clammy hand and know that it was because he liked her, really, really _liked _her.

She fights with him just to see the flare of passion in his eyes, just to know that all of him, all of his anger and spite and every fiber of his being, is centered on her and that moment. Whether it was hating her or wanting to wrestle her to the ground just to get that frustration out, she doesn't care. So long as his eyes are on her, his attention knows only her. So she can't have his kiss or his hand entwined with hers and she'll never hear him randomly blurt that he loves her, but this, him, their fighting, was as close to heaven as she'd ever be.

Nobody else would get it; the world just wouldn't understand. And she accepted that, she laughed it off and toughened herself up, and she took what she could get. She doesn't cry, she's got no tears to shed; she convinces even _herself _that he's almost nothing to her. But then he does something and she says something and they're screaming until she's hoarse, and holy chiz, she's _alive_. She's breathing and moving and living like she never has before; the thrill of his anger and her excitement and the tension that sizzles between them, it's enough.

But then it passes, Carly intervenes, and he stops because it's what _she _wants. So he gets to play the bigger person and she snorts, shrugs, _whatever_. He could drool over her all he wanted, she didn't care. But then she'd brood and suffer and deep down, she wished… She just wanted him to know who she was… who she _loved_.
